Hand-crafted down to
the last detail
Saluting cannons by Salute of Sweden are hand-made in keeping with true artisan tradition. The barrel is cast in red brass, otherwise known as gunmetal, a copper-based alloy that gives the polished detail a reddish sheen.
To obtain certification to CIP standards, we have every barrel tested by a testing institute. To meet the stringent testing requirements, we cast the barrel with a stainless steel tube in the centre. CIP certification is proof of the commitment to safety that permeates the design of all our cannons.
Once the barrels have been cast, they are patinated by hand. To ensure the finish is just right, we treat them in two separate acid baths. We then polish all the reliefs, including the monograms that adorn our cannons. When these steps are complete, we coat the cannons with a clear varnish to preserve their shiny finish.
The carriage is made of oak and treated with Roslagen mahogany, a solution of linseed oil, balsam turpentine and tar, to achieve a beautiful lustre and scent. The fittings on the carriage are hand-forged. Our cannons are supplied in an exclusive wooden case with handles of three-strand hemp rope.
