The Sweden Cannon

The Sweden saluting cannon is a replica of the cannons on board the Karl XI, one of the largest gunships of Sweden’s age of greatness. Sweden was at war with both Denmark and Russia around the beginning of the 18th century. Karlskrona and its naval dockyard were founded in the 1680s to build gunships on a large scale. The biggest was the three-decked Karl XI or Carolus, launched in 1694 and armed with 110 thirty-six-pound cannons.
